Marettimo’s most attractive feature is certainly the huge benthonic biodiversity associated to one of the healthiest coralligenous habitats in the whole Mediterranean.

Dive sites such as San Simone and Punta Basana, for instance, host iconic red gorgonians at depths as shallow as 20 meters. Plus, leptogorgias, gold coral (slightly deeper than 30 meters), and several alcyonarians are not rare.

Besides, the presence of the largest Marine Protected Area in the Mediterranean has brought back a massive quantity of fish especially in some dive sites where barracudas, big dentex and big groupers are abundant.
A special mention goes to the eagle rays, which congregate from August to October often in large schools.

Marettimo is also a must-see spot for macro lovers, as numerous and diverse nudibranchs have their home here!
